Dengue Danger
Dengue Danger!
The dangerous dengue disease seems to be back! This is how the dengue virus can infect you:
• An infected Aedes mosquito bites a healthy person
• The infected person will have a fever 4 to 7 days later. The fever usually lasts for about 5 days.
• If another Aedes mosquito bites this person, it will be infected with the dengue virus.
• This infected mosquito might bite another person and infect him with the dengue virus….
…..and the dangerous dengue cycle goes on and on.
Dengue fever can have you fall really sick for several days, so protect yourself from getting bitten by the Aedes mosquitoes!
• Spread on mosquito repellents on your skin.
• Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when going outdoors.
Destroy mosquitoes’ breeding grounds by getting rid of stagnant (not flowing or running) water!
• Change the water in your pets’ water bowls daily.
• Help or remind Mummy to change the water in vases or bowls often.
• Help or remind Mummy to regularly remove the water on the dish under your potted plants.
• Remind Mummy to cover up bamboo pole holders after she takes in the dried laundry.
• Turn water containers over after you have used them .
• Remind Daddy not to store pails and watering cans in the open.
• If you are living in a HDB flat, get Daddy to ensure that the flow of water along the drain of the common corridors is not blocked with leaves and rubbish.
